Mental health Ballarat

Ballarat Men’s Mental health (BMMH) is a mental health organisation based in Ballarat. BMMH is dedicated to improving the mental health of men in the Ballarat region and reduce rates of suicide.

We are here to assist men affected by mental health in Ballarat.

Perhaps you are a man in the community who is struggling with depression, PTSD and/or other mental health issues.

Perhaps you’ve already tried to navigate the ‘system’ for support – and given up in despair.

Or maybe you think you might need help but just don’t know where to start. Talking to the GP might feel humiliating. Telling a loved one might feel like you’re letting someone down. Confiding in a mate might seem weak.

Or maybe you just don’t know exactly ‘what’ is wrong – so how do you talk about it?

Ballarat Men’s Mental Health (BMMH) is a unique, community-wide initiative developed by a committed team of locals in response to the frightening statistics of male suicide in the Ballarat region.

It is a non-threatening, confidential ‘first point of call’ for men to contact and say, “I’m struggling, but I don’t know what to do.”

A Lived Experience

As those closest to me are aware, including our wonderfully supportive family GP, I faced significant challenges during the middle part of 2023.

A cherished family friend, Lindy, connected me with Ballarat Men’s Mental Health (BMMH), an act for which I will always be deeply grateful.

My initial conversation with Murray was pivotal; he listened attentively and demonstrated remarkable empathy, putting me at ease.

Murray then referred me to my current psychologist, whose support has been invaluable in my journey towards recovery.

I wholeheartedly endorse the services of BMMH to anyone in need.

Their commendable efforts in the Ballarat community are providing crucial assistance to those facing similar struggles, while also working towards broader access to mental health services for individuals in distress, like I once was.
